Dear Aamir,

Since 2019, I've been working with Canadian Geographic on the Explore podcast, inviting audiences in Canada and around the world to learn from some of today's most fascinating explorers, scientists, researchers, authors and educators. Our guests are helping to reshape our understanding of geography — and Canada.

The Explore podcast is just one form of storytelling brought to you by Canadian Geographic.  At a time when misinformation is rampant, we continue to produce thoughtful, in-depth, balanced journalism in a multitude of formats. That's why I've decided to join a team of Royal Canadian Geographical Society Fellows to brave the cold and take a polar dip in support of the Explore podcast, the future of independent journalism and our shared mission to make Canada better known to Canadians and the world.

Support the Explore Podcast

Great podcasts are entertaining. They bring fascinating untold stories to life in an intimate and accessible way. The Explore podcast is no exception. Our format of smart, thoughtful, long-form interviews gives our guests the space needed to tell important stories.

Since we launched four years ago, I've had the pleasure to host more than 50 episodes with notable guests such as Canadian astronauts Chris Hadfield, David St. Jacques, and RCGS Honorary Vice-President Roberta Bondar. We've traveled to the Canadian High Arctic Research Station in Nunavut, talked with scientists studying climate change on an icebreaker along Canada's Atlantic coast, and revisited the 50th anniversary of the epic Canada-USSR Hockey Summit Series. We've discussed important issues like reconciliation with award winning First Nations journalist Connie Walker, and Special Interlocutor for Missing Children and Unmarked Graves and Burial Sites Kimberly Murray.

Our hope with each episode is that you will have learned more about Canada and the people who call this land home.

With your help, we can continue to share impactful, engaging stories that build understanding. And every dollar that we raise together through the 2023 Polar Plunge will get us closer to achieving our goal!

Please consider donating today!

If you donate $1,000 or more to the 2023 RCGS Polar Plunge, not only will I give you a shoutout on an upcoming episode of Explore, but you will also have your name featured in an issue of Canadian Geographic as a supporter. AND, you can get a paver engraved at 50 Sussex, Canada's Centre for Geography and Exploration and headquarters of Canadian Geographic.

I hope you'll consider supporting the Polar Plunge this year and that you'll tune into Explore for another great episode on Wednesday, March 1st.

With thanks,

David McGuffin
